From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party access locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
